Refer a Patient to Dr Nikhil Oberai

If you have a patient who needs implant treatment beyond the scope of your practice, I welcome referrals from dentists across the UK. Your patient will be seen promptly, treated with the same standard of care you would expect, and returned to you for ongoing general dental care.

Your patient is in the right hands. Your relationship with them stays intact.

Referring a patient for specialist implant treatment is a decision that reflects well on you as their dentist. It means you know the limits of what you want to offer in your practice and you have found someone whose standard of care you can stand behind.

I take that responsibility seriously. Every patient referred to me receives the same thorough assessment, honest clinical advice, and careful treatment that my own patients receive. They are kept informed at every stage. And when their implant treatment is complete, they come back to you.

I do not treat referred patients as an opportunity to expand my own general dental list. Your patient remains your patient. I am here for the implant work.

The cases I am most often referred and most experienced in treating

I accept referrals for the full range of implant treatments, including cases that have been declined elsewhere. Here is an overview of the presentations I treat most commonly from referral.

Single Tooth Implants

Where a patient needs a single tooth implant and you would prefer a specialist to carry out the placement, I am happy to place and restore and return the patient to you for ongoing care. Alternatively, I can place the implant and you can restore it, if that is your preference. We can discuss the arrangement at referral stage.

Multiple Missing Teeth

Implant-supported bridge work for patients with two or more adjacent missing teeth. Placement, restoration, and return to referring practice.

Full Arch Reconstruction

All-on-4, Smile-in-a-Day, and full mouth implant rehabilitation including the Gold, Platinum, and Zygomatic packages. These are the cases that benefit most from specialist input and where the referral relationship works particularly well.

Complex and Compromised Cases

Patients with low bone density, a history of periodontal disease, failed implants placed elsewhere, or patients who have been turned away from other practices. This is a specific area of focus for me and I welcome these referrals in particular.

Corrective Implant Work

Patients whose implant treatment, placed in the UK or abroad, has failed or is failing. Peri-implantitis cases requiring surgical intervention. Prosthetic corrections where the original restoration is inadequate.

Zygomatic and Advanced Surgical Cases

Patients with severe upper jaw bone loss where conventional implants are not possible. Zygomatic, pterygoid, and transinus implant techniques. Cases where bone grafting has been presented as the only route and the patient wants an alternative assessment.

A straightforward referral process with a fast response

I want the referral process to be as easy as possible for you and as good an experience as possible for your patient. Here is how it works.

1
Starting point

Submit the Referral

Complete the referral form on this page or contact my team directly by phone or email. Include as much clinical detail as is available, including any existing radiographs or treatment history. The more context you can provide, the more productive the first consultation with your patient will be.

2
Before we begin

Fast Acknowledgement

My team will acknowledge every referral within one working day. Where the case is complex or urgent, I am happy to have a brief phone conversation with you directly before the patient is seen, to discuss the clinical picture and what the assessment is likely to find.

3
The procedure

Patient Consultation and Assessment

Your patient will be offered a free 3D Smile Assessment including a full cone beam CT scan. After the assessment, a written treatment plan and cost breakdown is provided to the patient. A summary of the clinical findings and the recommended treatment plan is sent to you.

4
While you recover

Treatment

Treatment proceeds in accordance with the agreed plan. Your patient is kept informed and supported at every stage by my team. You are updated at key stages of the treatment journey.

5
Connecting the pieces

Discharge Back to Your Practice

On completion of implant treatment, a full discharge summary is provided and the patient is discharged back to your care for ongoing general dental management. We are available for any implant-related queries or follow-up that arises subsequently.

"From start to finish Nikhil and the team were fantastic. Being extremely nervous and worried, I was put at ease straightaway. Everything was explained, every process was faultless."

Interested in developing your implant practice?

As well as accepting referrals, I run structured one-to-one mentorship programmes for dentists who want to develop their implant skills through hands-on live patient training.

The 3 Month and 6 Month Programmes are delivered at Brunner Court in Northwich and offer the kind of practical, case-based experience that courses cannot replicate. If you are building your implant practice and would prefer to treat more cases yourself rather than refer them, this is where that journey starts.

I'm Dr Nikhil Oberai MSC & Dental Implants are all I do

When you refer a patient to me, you are referring them to someone who has dedicated their entire clinical career to implant dentistry. I hold a Master’s Degree in Dental Implantology from the University of Manchester and I teach the same programme as an Honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow. My implant success rate across more than 1,000 cases is 99.5%.

I also teach other dentists. The mentorship programmes I run at Brunner Court in Northwich are attended by dentists from across the UK who want to develop their implant skills. The standard I hold myself to clinically is the same standard I expect of those I train. It is the standard your patient will experience when they come to see me.

The cases I find most interesting to receive on referral are the complex ones. Patients with compromised bone, failed previous treatment, or clinical presentations that have been turned away elsewhere. If you have a patient whose case you are not sure about, send them anyway and let the CT scan tell us what is possible.

What referring dentists ask most often

Yes. I receive referrals from dentists across the North West, the West Midlands, North Wales, and further afield. Patients travel to see me from across the UK for complex implant treatment. Distance is not a barrier.

No. I treat referred patients for implant treatment only and discharge them back to your practice on completion. I do not offer to take on general dental care for referred patients.

Yes. If you have a patient whose implant suitability is uncertain, or who has been given conflicting advice about their options, a second opinion assessment is something I am happy to provide. The free 3D CT scan assessment gives both you and the patient a definitive clinical picture.

We aim to offer a consultation within two weeks of receiving the referral in most cases. For urgent cases, particularly where there is infection or a failing implant causing ongoing pain, please call us directly and we will prioritise the appointment.

Yes. A written summary of the clinical findings and the recommended treatment plan is sent to you after the patient's assessment appointment. This is provided as standard for all referrals.

As much clinical detail as is available. A description of the presenting situation, the relevant dental and medical history, any existing radiographs or clinical notes, and the specific question you would like the assessment to answer. The more context you can provide, the more productive the assessment will be.

Yes. If you have a complex case and would find it helpful to talk through the clinical picture before submitting a formal referral, please call either practice and ask to speak to my team. Where appropriate I am happy to have a brief conversation with you directly.
