When a tooth is lost, two things go with it: the visible tooth above the gumline and the root beneath it. Most replacement options only deal with the first part. Dental implants deal with both.
A small titanium post, about the size of a small screw, is placed into the jawbone where the missing tooth used to be. That post acts as the new root. Over several weeks, it fuses with the surrounding bone through a completely natural process. Once that bond is secure, a custom-made porcelain crown is attached on top.
The implant itself is invisible. What you and everyone around you see is a natural-looking tooth that matches the size, shape, and colour of the teeth around it. I hold a Master’s Degree in Dental Implantology from the University of Manchester, and I teach the same programme as an Honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow, which means the techniques I bring to my patients are the same ones being taught at postgraduate level.
