A lovely gentleman who had put up with far too little for far too long.
Erik is one of those patients I remember clearly from the very first consultation. He came in quietly, a little resigned, and with a very simple message: he was unhappy, he could not eat properly, and he was not willing to keep wearing dentures. He did not want a workaround. He wanted it fixed properly.
That directness made my job straightforward. He knew what he did not want. My job was to show him what was genuinely possible.

Missing teeth, a denture he resented, and meals he had stopped enjoying.
Erik had been living with multiple missing teeth for some time. The gaps had accumulated gradually, the way these things tend to, and somewhere along the way the decision to manage the situation rather than fix it had been made. A denture was offered as the solution and Erik wore it, but it was never something he accepted. It was uncomfortable, it restricted what he could eat, and it did not feel like his mouth.
What Erik described to me, and what I hear regularly from patients in the same situation, was the slow narrowing of what daily life involved. Meals became something to get through rather than enjoy. Eating out, eating with family, eating anything that required a proper bite, all of it became complicated in a way it should not have been.
He had reached the point where he was simply done with managing it. He came to see me to find out whether something could actually be done. The answer, as I told him at the end of our first conversation, was yes.
- Finding out what was possible
Going through the options and deciding to go all in.
At the consultation, we went through the full picture together. I explained the options available to someone with Erik’s level of missing teeth, the condition of the remaining teeth, and the bone available for implant placement. CT scans were carried out in the planning phase, giving me a precise picture of the anatomy and allowing me to plan the implant positions accurately.
Erik was clear about what he wanted: a fixed solution. Not another denture. Not a compromise. A complete set of fixed teeth, upper and lower, that he never had to think about again.
After going through the treatment plan in detail, he decided to go ahead with a full mouth rehabilitation covering both arches. Every stage was explained to him and every cost was written down before anything was agreed.

Extractions, implants, and a fixed smile, all in the same day.
The treatment involved extracting all of the remaining upper teeth and placing the implants on the same day. This is the Smile-in-a-Day protocol, where the surgical stage and the fitting of a temporary fixed bridge happen in a single appointment. Erik did not leave the clinic with a gap or a temporary denture. He left with fixed teeth.
That moment, when a patient sees their temporary smile for the first time on the day of surgery, is something I never quite get used to. After years of managing, of covering their mouth, of ordering around the limitation, they have something fixed and complete looking back at them in the mirror. The shift in how they hold themselves is immediate.
Erik was no different.
After a healing period of 12 weeks, while the implants fused fully with the jawbone, we moved into the design phase for the permanent bridge. Erik was involved in the decisions about shade, shape, and how the final teeth would look. We went through several try-in stages to make sure the

- The result
Over the moon. And looking forward to spending time with his grandkids again
Erik was, as he put it himself, over the moon with the finished result. The fixed bridges looked completely natural. He could eat anything he wanted. The denture was gone permanently and with it went everything he had disliked about wearing it.
What he said that I remember most clearly was that he was looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren without having to worry about his teeth. It is the same thing I hear from patients across all kinds of full mouth cases, in different words. The dental outcome is not the thing they most want to talk about. The freedom to be fully present in the moments that matter to them is.
That is what treatment like this restores. Not just function. The ability to stop thinking about your teeth and start being present in your life.

What Erik's journey shows
Erik’s case is a good illustration of something I want every patient in a similar situation to understand. A denture is not the ceiling. It is one option among several. And for patients who have tried a denture and found it inadequate, who have been living around the limitations rather than through them, fixed implant treatment is not an impossibility. It is what I do every week.
The full arch rehabilitation that Erik had, with a fixed bridge on both the upper and lower arch, is available to most patients who need it. The free 3D Smile Assessment tells us precisely what is required clinically for your specific case. If you are in the position Erik was in, come and find out what is actually possible.

Full Mouth Dental Implants, Fixed Upper and Lower Arch
Erik had a complete full mouth rehabilitation at my Cheshire practice using the Smile-in-a-Day protocol. This involved the extraction of remaining teeth, the placement of implants in both the upper and lower arch, and the fitting of a temporary fixed bridge on the day of surgery. After a 12-week healing period, permanent fixed bridges were designed and fitted across both arches.
This treatment falls within the Gold and Platinum full arch packages at my practices.
Full arch treatment starts from £11,500 per arch. Both arches from £19,500. 0% finance is available through Tabeo over 12 months.
